Day 21: Little things count.

little things

F=(Fast) Deny a material pleasure (such as going out to eat / buying pop or coffee / a candy bar, etc.) and use the money to help someone else.

E=Encourage someone in need.

A=Admit to being too busy doing “important” things rather than taking the time to do little things for others.

S=(Scripture) Romans 12:9-13; 1 Peter 5:6-10

T=Thank God for specific blessings that you have received

Be sincere in your love for others. Hate everything that is evil and hold tight to everything that is good. Love each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you do yourself. Never give up. Eagerly follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord. Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying. Take care of God’s needy people and welcome strangers into your home. (Romans 12:9-13; Contemporary English Version)

So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you. Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does. (1 Peter 5:6-10; Message Bible)

    Amen!

    I definatley agree with this whole concept. The world promotes a life of pleasing yourself. I have learned a lot in my life especially this year that the most miserable people on this earth are the people that only think of themselves and how people can please them instead of what we can do for others. The apostle Paul says in Ephesians chapter 1 that it is only in Christ where we find who we are and what we are living for. We dfinatley need to learn to appreciate who we are as people and quit putting on airs. I was born with aspergers syndrome and I always thought if I could make myself to be like the well known people by copying them I would be happy but I was very miserable during this time. I needed to learn that Christ is enough to bring fulfillment to anyone that needs it, because his love endures forever. Nothing in this world could give me forever security like Jesus.

    Over the past several days, my family and I have disappeared into the city. We’ve left deadlines and demands behind, to “come away” for a much needed family respite.

    Harboring us as “refugees of restoration” is a dear friend who has openned her home to us. Shared meals, fellowship, and no agenda, has offered the blessing of Sabbath refreshment to my girls and me.

    Interestingly enough, our friend sent me a note, unsolicited, just days ago asking how she might be of help to my family. She wanted to do something for us, not knowing how valuable her offer was.

    So today we are enjoying the luxury of leisure. Being lazy with the Lord, wearing our PJs for more of the day than usual.

    Thanks be to GOD for friends who are keen to His spirit, able to sense need before it is articulated, willing to serve so graciously. What a blessing to serve the Lord of the Sabbath, who delights in re-creating His spirit in us, rejuvinating us with rest and renewal. Thank you GOD for the blessings You provide so lavishly upon us.

    Dear GOD,
    Please solidify in me contentment. I desire carefree living in Your presence. Help me to trust Your strong right hand. Foster an eagerness in me to “follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord.” Let my hope in You make me glad.

    Amen.
